Aam
Aadmi Party leader and Delhi's Cabinet Minister Atishi has been chosen as the
new Chief Minister of Delhi in place of Arvind Kejriwal.
The
story of 'Accidental Prime Minister' has been famous in the country's politics,
Delhi's new Chief Minister is also exactly like that And Delhi Government
Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has already put an end to all doubts, 'The chair
belongs to Arvind Kejriwal, and it will always remain his.'
Atishi
will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party leader Gopal Rai
informed the media about this on Tuesday. Gopal Rai said that Atishi is
becoming the CM of Delhi in difficult circumstances. Gopal Rai alleged,
"BJP tried to break the Aam Aadmi Party and topple the government. But we
foiled all their attempts."
After
Arvind Kejriwal's resignation, a consensus was reached in the party's
legislature party meeting on making Atishi the new Chief Minister. Arvind
Kejriwal himself proposed Atishi's name in the legislature party meeting.
When
Arvind Kejriwal addressed the Aam Aadmi Party workers on Sunday and said that
he would resign after two days, Atishi's name was also included in the race for
this post since then. However, apart from him, the names of Gopal Rai and Kailash
Gehlot as well as Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal were also discussed. But
now Atishi's name has been finalized. Atishi will remain the Chief Minister of
Delhi till the assembly elections.
Did
these things go in favor of Atishi?
In
fact, after the meeting held on Monday, Atishi was considered to be the
frontrunner in this race. Atishi has had the most ministries and departments
while Kejriwal was in jail. She did many important works in the education
sector when Manish Sisodia was the education minister and also handled the
education department in Manish Sisodia's absence.
Atishi
is Kejriwal's confidant.
Many
sources associated with the party had also indicated in a conversation with the
BBC that she is the frontrunner in the current situation.
When
Atishi did not get the ministerial post
After
the 2020 assembly elections, no woman including Atishi got a place in
Kejriwal's cabinet. Then some leaders of the party itself criticized this move
for not giving Atishi a place in the cabinet. This was the election when the
Aam Aadmi Party won 62 out of 70 assembly seats. Eight of these were women
MLAs.
But
even after this, Arvind Kejriwal did not give a single woman leader a place in
his cabinet. But with time, the political situation of Delhi also changed.
After
Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and then Arvind Kejriwal himself went to jail,
Atishi was seen taking charge of the issue from the government to the party.
Atishi
became the Education Minister in the Kejriwal government for the first time in
the year 2023.
When
Atishi removed her surname
Aatishi was first fielded by AAP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as a candidate from the seat. Earlier, Atishi was generally considered to be a leader active behind the scenes. During the 2019 elections, suddenly seeing Atishi with a mic in her hand in front of a crowd of common people, it was assumed that she could become an important female face of AAP in electoral politics.
During the campaign in the same election, Atishi removed her surname i.e. 'Marlena' from all the party records and all the papers related to the election campaign. At that time, the Bharatiya Janata Party had started cornering Atishi by calling her a foreigner and a Christian because of her surname.
However,
Atishi had said that she was removing her surname because she did not want to
waste time in proving her identity.
In
fact, Atishi's parents are considered to be left-wing and Atishi was given the
surname 'Marlena' by combining the letters of the names of Karl Marx and Vladimir
Lenin.
Atishi
stood third in this election and Gautam Gambhir won the election on a BJP
ticket.
However,
after this Atishi also removed her surname from her ex handle.
